Be Thou At Peace

Dick was part of the group who went to Penn State to get a Master's Degree in Chemistry in preparation for teaching at West Point. We were a close group brought together by the struggle to complete that demanding schedule. We all worked hard and kept up each other's spirits. One relief was watching Army beat Penn State in football. We sat together as a group in the Penn State student section and rooted for Army. We suffered many indignities for that including being pelted with ice. Dick was a steady, friendly person. I enjoyed being with him. he had a quick mind and a friendly laugh. What's more, he laughed at my poor jokes. I remember him fondly. I always thought very highly of Dick. We shared five years together. Jack Downing |
