Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Rosemary & Michael McCarthy on October 3, 2007:
Dear Lynn & William:
Words can not express our heartfelt sympathies on the loss of your beloved son. “Loddy” was a classmate and Rugby Brother to my son Brendan. Because of where we live, my husband and I were fortunate to have the opportunity to attend many rugby games and functions throughout their 4 years at West Point. We always remember Loddy as a fine young man who always had a smile on his face and a definite “twinkle” in his eye. Loddy’s whole face glowed when he smiled and always seemed to be happy. As rugby parents, we watched the team bond and develop over the years as they won and lost matches. We noticed a unique bond between the Brothers of the Class of 2007 and realized that what they shared was something very strong & special, something that only Brothers share. Loddy was a significant part of the bond that the rugby team shared. He will be sorely missed by his classmates at West Point, his new Army buddies at Ft. Sill, the Army Rugby parents, but most dramatically by his Brothers on the West Point Rugby Team. They ache at the loss of Loddy.
As David’s parents, you should be so proud of your son, he accomplished so much. But most importantly, David was a man of character with a good heart and a smile that could melt anyone. At the Rugby banquet during Graduation week, I remember sitting at the table next to your family as Loddy’s name was called as the recipient of the MVP award. David appeared surprised but you could tell by the look on his face that he was so humbled by the award. We will miss Loddy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you & your family during this very difficult time.
