Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bin Barta on May 29, 2008:

Cindy and the family -
We are sad for you at the sudden loss of Bill. He was a great guy. A Great 58er! I roomed with Mac at West Point during Yearling year, and he was a delightful and honorable member of Company M-2, the best in the Corps. I laughed night after night as he read jokes to me and Jack Bradshaw. He was quite the champion boxer as I can attest from our plebe boxing class. We also played together on the Army Team. Mac was talented - an artist, writer, & creative thinker. (I need to find his book.) Jan and I ran into Mac and the family at Leavenworth/C&GSC, Wash DC, and Heidelburg. Two of my more humorous memories were: trying unsuccessfully to pull him and his suitcase onto a metro in Paris and leaving him behind (I came back to the station to find him) and helping him get out of my faulty bathroom in which he had locked himself. He had a very distinguished career. I will miss a compassionate friend, unique classmate, and strong comrade-at-arms. Blessings to you Cindy and family in this loss.
