Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Geoff Davis on September 16, 2008:
Brian had a great influence on my life. I became a Christian while at the Academy and he was a powerful role model to me. He was a rugged man, filled with energy, and a true leader. I shared many Bible studies with him and looked up to him in ways difficult to describe in later years.
In 1985, his Task Force from the 502nd Infantry relieved my TF from the 508th PIR in the desert. I can still see him bouncing down the stairs of the aircraft as he arrived in the Middle East. We met and embraced on the ramp, a brief reunion, promising to reconnect once we had our respective troops cared for.
We were both busy transitioning our troops and had little time to visit. The night before I flew out of theater, I walked from my barracks and saw him sitting on a rock gazing across the red sea in deep thought. I wanted to speak to him but did not want to interrupt his quiet time...something rare for a busy Army Captain. I decided to catch him later. It never happened. I figured we would see each other back in the States. I remember when I got the call on the afternoon of December 12, 1985 that he was gone. I still weep at the thought that I never said goodbye to a friend who meant so much to me.
Brian would be surprised at how many of us have been touched by him...how many of our lives were changed by his joyful witness for Jesus, and how that spirit and truth were passed to thousands of others. He truly embodied the words of Colossians 1:27, "Christ in you, the hope of glory."
Be thou at peace, good friend and fellow Ranger. Well done, good and faithful servant. I will never forget you.
