West Point, 1958

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Walter Menning on December 27, 2008:

Karl Prunitsch was a major influence in my decision to seek an appointment and admission to West Point in 1958. I lived just three blocks north of Karl's home in LaSalle, Illinois, and walked past his house each day on my way to high school. Karl was a star on the high school track team and continued perfecting his technique as a pole vaulter when he joined the Academy.
Karl was an outstanding role model who gave me sound counsel, practical advice and the inspiration to join the Class of 1962.
Our paths have not crossed during the past fifty years, but I am grateful to Karl for helping me at an important 'crossroad' in my life.

With heartfelt sympathy and gratitude,

Walter Menning
Class of '62
