Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Samantha DeMange on February 9, 2009:
I never knew Robert as a classmate or peer. I never saw him and Diana in the infamous black Rambler. I only ever saw them as the happy couple I was lucky enough to call my parents.
When my father died, I was just a little girl. It was hard for me to grasp what was really happening at the time. When I try to think back to the events of that Valentine's Day and those that followed, my memories are spotty at best. Whether it's a gift from God or my father, I can only remember the good things. I can remember being surrounded by people who loved him. I can remember people laughing because they knew it was what he wanted. I can remember a church so full of people that it was overwhelming at the innocent age of eleven.
My heart swells with sadness and joy to know that there are other people in the world holding tight to their memories of my father. I am proud that he was so loved.
I may not have had as much time with him as other people, but I am lucky because I am his daughter. I hope every day that I can be as kind, smart and funny as he was. More than that, I hope that he is proud of the three daughters he left behind.
