Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Vern Van Vonderen on September 3, 2004:

My first contact with Bruce was on the day of my arrival in Beast Barracks. I had arrived a week later than the class arrival and in addition to feeling that mine was the only name known to the First Classmen, I had been issued only limited clothing --- not to include a khaki hat. I was rooming with Bruce and Pete Verfurth and the uniform of the day was khakis. I was about to join the ranks clad in my khakis and cadet grey hat and knowing that I might attract some unwanted attention in that garb, Bruce took one of his khaki hat covers and stretched it over the grey. While it was noticed by some sharp eyed Firstie, I did get unwarranted kudos for innovation --kudos which rightfully went to Bruce. Have you ever tried to explain that to a First Classman in Beast Barracks?
