Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John Bradley on August 24, 2010:

I did not know Arv very well, but I remember one unusual incident when we were assigned to the 1st Platoon of 1st Company at Camp Buckner in the Summer of 1955.

As I marched the platoon to the Mess Hall one day, I gave the standard command of "At Ease, March" as we neared the entrance to the building. Just after I gave it, I heard Arv speak loudly to a classmate in the rear of the platoon. Then, out of the blue, my TAC from A-2, Captain George Patton, the OC at the time, called out: "Mr. Bradley, What command did you just give?" I did not know where Captain Patton was, but I answered, "At Ease, March, Sir." Patton replied immediately: "Write that man up."

One never knew where Captain Patton was and what he might do. Arv handled the situation gracefully.

RIP.

John
