I have three strong memories of Gary. 1. During Firstie Year, we worked closely together in all the parades. Gary was A-2's Guidon Bearer and was instrumental in helping with the spacing of the 2d Regiment and A-2 in all the brigade parades and reviews. It took lots of experimentation to get spacing right and without Gary's help we would not have been successful. 2. Ann and I lived near to Gary and Mary at Fort Bragg where Gary commanded a large signal company. During the first large Quick Strike maneuver in the Carolinas, Gary, as I remember, was charged with the installation and maintenance of much of the long-line communications during the XVIII Airborne Corps exercise. Gary was quite proud of his command and his company's accomplishments. He and his troops went out before the 82d and 101st took the field and stayed out after the exercise ended and removed all the lines. 3. Last year, I was deeply impressed by everything Gary did to help Tex Lenart who lived near him in Arizona. Without Gary's help, Tex -- apparently isolated from his family -- would have been in deep trouble because of his own health problems. Another good man gone. RIP.
