Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Cecil L. Shrader on July 13, 2005:

Mel was my roommate during Cow and Firstie year. He was a good roommate and was fun loving, and loved Guy Lombardo records of Hawaii music. He enjoyed soccer but injuries prevented him from playing much in the first class year. He dated Jane for all of the first class year and was married just after graduation. I was honored to be part of their marriage at West Point. After graduation, our paths parted along our respective career branch paths. Mel distinguished himself in Vietnam having earned 8 BSM for valor. He then gave back to the Academy by being an instructor in MPL and as the Commandant of the Prep School. He continued serving the class by being the bugler for taps of deceased classmates and in participating in ceremonies of deceased veterans. He was a friend, valiant soldier, and may he rest in peace.
