Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Chuck Densford on June 10, 2017:
Patsy and I are deeply saddened by the passing of our very dear friend and brother, Doug Sedgwick. My cherished memories of Doug go back to January, 1954, at the USMA Preparatory School at Stewart AFB in Newburgh, NY. I came late to USMAPS, and didn't know anyone there, but Doug was the first to introduce himself to me. Doug, Brad Elliot and I were constant companions on our frequent weekend forays into Newburgh, to Rose's Tavern or to a movie. Doug invited me down to Ft Monmouth for a weekend to meet his parents, resulting in a lifelong affection and close friendship with his mother and father. Doug's parents invited Patsy to live with them at Ft Monmouth during Yearling Year, and LTC Sedgwick got her a job in the typing pool on post so she could earn money for weekend trips to West Point. Doug's mother took Patsy under her wing, tried to teach her to play bridge, and tried to prepare her to be an officer's wife. When Patsy came up to West Point, she stayed with Doug's then only "drag," and first wife, Linda Drew of Highland Falls. The four of us, or six of us including Bob Lindquist and Norma Ellison, were frequent companions on weekends in the Weapons Room and movie theater. These are fond memories of our Cadet days. After graduation, we did not see each other often, but when we did get together, it was like two brothers getting together again after a long separation. We will never forget his smiling face, sparkling blue eyes, quiet humor, and easy going presence. We have lost a very dear friend and brother, and we will miss him. Well done, Doug, be thou at peace. - Chuck and Patsy Densford
