Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Ron Turner on September 3, 2005:

Mel and I were friends at the same company (K-1) at West Point.

We never served together until late in our careers, when Mel, and Will Roosma, were Brigade Commanders in the 25th Division and I was on the Pacific Army HQ Staff. We got together several times. After both of us retired, Sue and I, and Mel and Jane, went on two river boat trips in Europe and had a chance to visit at length. Mel's work in playing taps at the funerals of countless soldiers in his area was great. He wore his dress blues, and played taps for privates, corporals, or any other veteran. He is a great soldier, and we will miss him. He rests in peace.
