Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Walter Olker on August 14, 2006:

Roy was a true character. Unique, enigmatic (at least to me), and a true source of wisdom. That wisdom sticks with me today. Once, when C2 was in a turbulent time, Roy took a decidedly different--and unpopular side. He argued very effectively for it, but I couldn't believe that he was taking this position. After discussions were over, I asked him about it and he said, "Have you ever heard of playing the devil's advocate?" I, very naive, had not, and thus learned the value of having someone take the opposing view to prevent "group think" or "lynch mentality" and think about what they were doing.

When I think of Roy, that's what I think of, and how I'll always remember him ... as well as perfecting word processing for term papers on the company computer while I was still handwriting mine.

Rest in peace, Roy. You're in good company.
