Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Robert D'Amore on December 28, 2006:

Clyde Brown provided the book ends for my total military experience. He was there in beast barracks trying to teach me some of skills he learned as an e.m., and he was my buddy during my last assignment in VN.

Clyde was never out of place. He was the master adapter and seemed to fit in everywhere. Although we were about the same age I always considered Clyde's counsel something to be valued. Superiors and subordinates liked and respected him. His knowlege of communications was broad and he was able to bring it to bear on the many problems we encountered during our 1st Signal Bde tour. Lurking behind that prim and proper officer facade was a churning iconoclast who not only kept me entertained with his witty sarcasm and humerous irreverence, but Clyde actually did something to positively influence or correct the situations/people he was targeting. That made him a very unique but useful critic.

I never knew Clyde to let a situation control him. He always seemed to be in charge. Whether it was encountering a V.C. roadblock or an irate General Clyde seemed to know just what to do.

Although our paths have not crossed in almost 40 years, I have often thought of Clyde -- and I will surely miss him. He was quite a guy!
