Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Palmer McGrew on December 28, 2006:

Clyde was one of the first people I met after Beast, although I'm not sure why that was. He was dating Ethel Merle, actually they had been engaged for some time already and would have been married if he had not been accepted to West Point. She had an apartment in Highland Falls where Ceda sometimes stayed and other times simply changed clothes there. Clyde was enough older and more experienced in the Army than most of us that he became a mature counselor to many. I'm sure Ethel Merle played a similar role with our girl friends. After she died, I sensed that Clyde was a lost soul. We tried to involve him in things at minis but he prefered to go off by himself. Ceda and I treasured his friendship and will continue to treasure his memory.
