Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Frank Harlem on April 6, 2007:

John and I were friends at West Point, and after our second year there we took a wonderful two week trip together to Europe where we traveled through western Germany, Copenhagen, Luxemburg and northern France including Paris. We had such a grand time that we decided to repeat our adventure after graduation by devoting the last half of our two month graduation leave to exploring the western United States for the first time. We rendezvoused at John?s Mom?s home in Tulsa, and leaving John?s Corvette there, we headed west in my Ford. After passing through the majestic Rockies, we delighted in San Francisco, flew to Hawaii for a week, drove south along the coast to Los Angeles, and finished by visited my aunt in Phoenix and John?s aunt in Santa Fe. It was a marvelous trip made extra special by John?s infectious laughter, natural sense of humor and adventuresome spirit.

Over the years, my wife Carole and I have traveled a lot, including several trips to Europe and a few more to Hawaii, but none of our trips has been any more enjoyable than my two special traveling adventures with John those many years ago.
