Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Debbie Washburn on April 11, 2007:

To Cadet Hanson's Family: It is amazing that it is over nine years that this tragedy occurred. My daughter, Kimberlee, was also a Plebe in Tommy's class, and she was heartbroken when he was lost. When she told me the sad news, although I did not know Tommy, I felt that I did, because he was in the same situation as my daughter - away from home in a new life's journey that we had no idea where it would lead. His death made us all aware of the realities of life, and left a deep sadness in our hearts for all of you surviving your son and cadet. I just wanted you to know that Tommy will always be in our prayers, and that he is alive in all of us who remember him, to this very day. We hope you are coping as well as you can be, and knowing that he was a brave, courageous son who wanted to do something special with his life. (Kimberlee did not graduate with the class, she left West Point after her Plebe year and came back to school in Illinois.)
