Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bill Landefeld on April 20, 2007:

Steve was my roomate for 3 full years. His innate intelligence, precision questioning and dry sarcasm was an amazing combination. He motivated me academically like nobody else. Trying to keep up with him was not quite possible for me, but he - unknowingly - motivated me through friendly competition in academics.

The biggest honor of my life was being the Best Man in his wedding with Pam.

With Steve on the east coast and me on the west coast, we were not as close for a few years. But over the last several years we have reconnected in a great way.

We ended our active duty time together, in a great coincidence, in the same unit, Weapons Support Detachment Korea. Steve was the S-1, I was a Liaison Officer to the ROK Army. Our wives both came to Camp Page, which was an interesting experience, living on the economy.

Steve leaves a tremendous legacy. He was blessed to have an angel as his wife. Pam has been incredibly strong and loving during his illness. Their two children also are very strong and steady, and they deserve our support in the coming years.

God Bless Steve. Steve, you will always be with me in my heart. The last thing you said to me one week ago was "I'm not saying goodbye, I'm saying I'll see you later." Indeed you will; in fact I see you every day.
