Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Jerome Lewis on June 21, 2007:
Tony was always providing the laughs at the reunions (San Francisco, Santa Fe -- remember the Rooster painting, Carmel -- beer on the porch, the 40th at that historic farm when he scared off one of the chickens or was it a rooster?). And at Portland 2000 which was the only baseball cap I collected. His was probably the only classmate's home that I visited back in the 50s. It was on top of a hill in rural San Juan. The whole family was gathered as four of us '58 Artillery classmates rode back to Fort Bliss, TX (El Paso) together in Herb's car (Christmas '58). I remember Tony yelling "No" as one of the drivers almost passed on a blind curve. He might have saved our lives! Back in our cadet days, in Plebe Year, B-1 and B-2 (his co.) shared one column of barracks (oddly called a Division). The B-2 guys -- all shorter -- stopped in our 1st floor room way too often perhaps, just to keep from braving the elements and the "mean" upperclassmen. But it was great knowing him and the others that way. Most of those are gone now (Davis, Spencer, Brookhart, Faiola, Giuliano -- all of whom died very young). Tony, thanks for the laughter, and thanks for the caps. JERRY LEWIS (Fellow Californian)
