Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Karl Oelke on July 5, 2007:

I don't remember the year, but on one of our cadet football trips, after the game and a night's carousing, we formed up beside the train, in two ranks, awaiting inspection before boarding for the trip back to West Point. In the back rank to avoid notice, two of us were holding Rooster between us, lest he collapse and do us all in. The inspecting officer was a tall lanky Infantry officer clad in dress mess with cape (maybe long Tom Rienzi??). As he reached the end of the front rank, and they took a step forward, he swept around to inspect the back rank. As his cape furled out behind him, Rooster leaned forward and cried, "My God it's Superman!" The inspecting officer noticed, and Rooster was dead meat.
