Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dave Cunningham on August 11, 2008:

What a heartfelt loss. As I regard the photo of him handing me my diploma that June day in '74, I can hear him say again, "Congratulations Dave". It was both our last years at West Point, mine as cadet & his as Sup. How privileged we young ones were to have been touched & guided by this magnificent gentleman! How humbled & gratified I was to realize that he knew me by the name I went by, & not simply by the the label on that tube he handed me that bears his fingerprints still. I feel confident speaking for those of us who spent our entire time at USMA under his tutelage when I say that GEN Knowlton epitomized our aspirations and served as a living, present inspiration to us all. I have never heard his name mentioned with any but the greatest respect and admiration. The world is indeed a much poorer place for his passing. All our condolences to Mrs. Knowlton, Holly & Dave. Be Thou at Peace, Sir, Be Thou at Peace.
