Be Thou At Peace

Affectionately known as "Mr. Scripps Ranch," Colonel Robert E. "Bob" Dingeman was celebrated as the Miramar College Foundation�s 2007 Outstanding Leader�s Award recipient at a ceremony in November at USD�s Institute for Peace and Justice. Proud West Point graduate -- Class of 1945, Dingeman served for 30 years in the Army, earning countless medals and decorations, including the Silver Star for Heroism, Soldier�s Medal for Bravery, Purple Heart, seven Bronze Stars, 11 Air Medals, five Legions of Merit for Outstanding Service, 12 Campaign Stars for Battle Honors, and four Presidential Unit Citations for Valorous Actions.

Civilian accomplishments are no less impressive. A consummate volunteer, activist, committee member and educator, Dingeman was named Citizen of the Year six times and recognized by the City of San Diego with six official Bob Dingeman Days. He was elected "President Emeritus for Life" of the Scripps Ranch Civic Association and honored with a high school scholarship created in his name. Colonel Robert E. Dingeman Elementary School in Scripps Ranch, the only public school in the San Diego Unified School District named for a living person. Dingeman earned his bachelor�s degree from West Point, three master�s degrees in political science, guided missile engineering and history at George Washington University, University of Southern California and University of San Diego, respectively. As an educator, Colonel Dingeman has touched the lives of thousands of San Diego Miramar College students -- first as a teacher of history, political science, citizenship and math for 18 years, and, since 1994, as a member of the Miramar College Foundation Board of Directors.
