Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Ramon A Nadal on February 12, 2017:

I served as the CO of A Co. 1/7th Cav under LTC Hal Moore during the battles of LZ X Ray and Bong Son, as well as in 2/7 Cav as the S-3 when he was an O6 commanding the 3rd Brigade of the 1st Cavalry Division.

Without question Hal Moore was the best soldier I ever served with or knew. He embodied in everything he did the values of Duty, Honor , Country.

Impeccably honest, valorous, insisting on the highest standards, always wanting to be where the fighting was the heaviest, but using good judgement to command and lead his battalion, able to keep a calm demeanor in a crisis, his leadership, more than any other factor was responsible for the survival of 1/7 Cav during the battle of LZ X Ray.
He loved and was dedicated to his soldiers well being and I have seen him weep at the loss of their lives, but he was fierce in seeking to engage the enemy.

He was an inspiration as a soldier, a father, and a human being.

I and all the soldiers of 1/7 Cav will miss him.
