Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Glen L. Shrock on December 12, 2010:

I first met (at the time) Major Nye at the thermalbad (public swimming pool)in Heidleberg, Germany in 1959. I was an enlisted man (PFC) and had no idea that he was an officer. I was in the 529th MP Co.and we provided security for the USAEUR command Building. I was totally surprised when he came in and that was when I found out who he was.

He was a good friend and we always talked as equals. I met his future wife, Nan, and she was extremely nice as well. I was the only enlisted man invited to his wedding and was very honored to be there.

When it became time for me to return to the states for my final six months in the army, he was able to get my transfer orders changed from Yuma, Arizona to Indianapolis, Indiana, which was only 50 miles from my home in Greentown, Indiana.

We remained in limited contact, via US mail for a few years, but then I lost contact. I located his address and called and spoke to Nan, and found out about his passsing. I am sorry that I did not see him again after I returned to the states, but I always considered him to be a great friend.
