Dear Barbara, I was deeply hurt to read the news of Lew's death. Though separated by time and distance, he was one of my dearest friends. We were roommates for a time there in the section of barracks known as "the forgotten fifties." We were also teammates on the '46 LaCrosse team - as well as classmates. To me, he was all a classmate could and should be. We visited each other briefly only a couple of times - once at West Point, and again midst the jungles of Texas. Faced with the demands of duty, that's all we could manage. But we were friends. And I loved him as a brother, and was proud of him in his many accomplishments. May God bless you.
