Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Shelly Wright on July 11, 2012:

My name is Shelly Wright. I am the daughter of Robert Carrol Wright. As I was cleaning out my shed and going through Mother's things, I found a letter written by Robert K. Wright on August 26, 19??. No envelope or address, just the name. The letter was written to my mother without my father's knowledge. Based on the information on this web page, I'm assuming that I've found the right person.

Apparently, my father had received a letter from his girlfriend, my mother, the day before stating that she wanted to call it off for a while. He was very upset and allowed Robert K to read the letter. Robert wrote to my mom explaining that Daddy was waiting so he could get in a financial position to support her and a family...that she was all he talked about and that his heart was broken. He talked about how great a guy my dad was. It was a very sweet letter.

Well, it worked and they did get married. They had 4 children, Robert Carrol, Jr who was killed in Vietnam in 1970 (Distinguished Service Cross, Army), Michael (retired Navy), Kelly, and me, Shelly.

Daddy died when he was 35 of a cerebral aneurism. Mom was pregnant with me. Mom is still living but has dementia and is in an assisted living close by. I take care of her.

So, in a way, because Robert K. intervened, I exist. I'm sad that I missed getting to speak with him directly and I'm so sorry for your loss. Based on the very little I know of him, he was a great man.

God Bless Your Family,
Shelly Wright
