Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Diana Marie Hirston on April 29, 2017:

Guy Edward Hairston Junior, a retired Major General, was the son of Guy Edward Hairston and Ida Winfield Bingham of Shelbyville and Bell Buckle, Tennessee respectively. He was a fighter pilot, a cattleman, and a consummate leader. He served as an Assistant Deputy Secretary of Defense for the Air Force, Director of Information for the Air Force, Commander of Officer Training School for the Air Force, and as Commander of the pilot training wing at Laughlin Air Force Base. He was an MBA graduate of Harvard Business School with a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering from West Point in the Class of 1946. General Hairston flew in the first jet fighter squadron in the Army Air Corps in Korea flying 101 combat missions. He served in combat during the Vietnam Conflict as the commander of Forward Air Control in Cam Ran Bay and Ben Hoi. He was instrumental in the purchase of many of our country's current weapons of defense. His sense of humor was infectious and he made us laugh and willingly follow him. He was loved and may he fly acrobatic maneuvers in heaven.
