Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Neil Stewart on June 11, 2004:

I was a member of Heavy Mortar Company, 38th Regiment 2nd Infantry Division. I was assigned to Counterfire Platoon. I was on hill 347 just east of Old Baldy. on Sept 18 the Chinese laid down the heaviest artillery, mortar concentration I had ever witnessed. I beleive the 38th reg lost many a good man during that 54 day engagement. I never had the pleasure of meeting with Capt. DuBois, but in reading of his record and his accomplishments, I am sorry that I didnt. I knew the jeep driver that day, and the stars and strips had an article e=where they reported that the two officers were killed and the jeep driver was saved by a bible in his shirt pocket.
When I think of Korea, I do think of many incidents, and losing my Captain before I even met him fills me with sadness.

I hope the family is well, and if you wish to contact me I can be reached at
