| Colonel Greene was the Director of Instruction at the Infantry School in 1970 when he was alerted for assignment as a brigade commander in Vietnam. He asked to be assigned to the 1st Air Cavalry Division. At that time I was a junior captain getting ready to return to Vietnam for my second tour. I asked Colonel Greene that, if at all possible, I be assigned as a rifle company commander in his brigade. Two months later I was assigned to command Company A, 5th Battalion, 7th Calvary. This assignment changed my life and present me with a career in the US Army. Colonel Greene's outstanding leadership was instrumental in fixing my life's direction. |
