Be Thou At Peace

Posted by David E. Bolte on July 22, 2009:

As a new cadet in 1st Company, USCC, entering in 1945, Dick Kinney was identified to me by some member of the Beast Detail, as Dick passed by, as "The Arm of Army." "Do you know what that means, Mister?" we, in formation, were asked. When no one answered that he knew what that meant, it was explained: "That's Army's number one baseball pitcher, The Arm of Army." It was the first of the many athletic greats whom I saw in my four years. Dick Kinney was in A1, I was in Bi, and I have always remembered him with that nickname with the respect due a great Army athlete. As I see those great figures preceding me, I am saddened though inspired by their leadership.
