Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Don Shipman on October 17, 2015:

I recently learned of General Bresenham's death, and it affected me greatly. None of you will ever have heard of me, but I served as his S-1 clerk with the 13th in the early 60s. He was the finest officer I served with, and I remember him fondly.

The Colonel once asked me to stay with him, though I had been offered a posting with the American Forces Network. I refused, though I have often questioned my decision.

I admired him, and I have often wondered what might have happened had I stayed. Still, I wound up a network newscaster and later a University of Maryland teacher, and I give him credit for his motivation.

None of you may ever see this, but on the off chance you do, please know he was a valued warrior and more importantly a valued man
