Be Thou At Peace

"Chuck", as he was known in his career as an Air Force pilot raised a family of three boys, Lucien, Charles, and Stephen, with his wife, Melba. He met Melba from Winfield Louisiana while he was in the early years of his Air Force career, stationed at Vance AFB. They married and moved to Tampa, Florida, where he flew the B-47, after flying the B-24 and B-29. We moved to BenGuerir AFB in Morocco, then Albany Georgia where he flew the B-52, then Bellevue Nebraska at Offutt AFB and then to War College in Montgomery Alabama. After War College, Dad went to Vietnam in 1967/68 flying the AC-47 Spooky Gunships as the OIC of the 4th Special Forces Commando Wing at Da Nang, Ohu Cat, and Nha Trang. When he returned, we moved to Hawaii where he received his 2 DFC's, Silver Star, Bronze Star, and 13 Air Medals from his boss at CincPac, Admiral McCain.Dad finished his career as the head of the Oregon State University AF ROTC unit. His sons graduated from the USNA (Lucien), and Oregon State University, (Charley and Stephen). His wife, Melba died from cancer in 1975, and he remarried MaryAnne McIntire. My dad passed away at age 67 due to a rare disease, Supranuclear Palsey. Chuck was an honorable man and a devoted Christian. He emulated the values he was brought up with as a southern gentleman and a graduate of the United States Military Academy. He was a good man, good officer, good pilot, good husband, and a great father.
