Lynn W. Hoskins

West Point, 1946

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Barry A. Berglund on April 12, 2010:

I worked for BG Hoskins as the Adjutant General of the US Army Element, AFCENT. It seems hard to believe that 35 years have elapsed. Subsequent to my retirement in 1988, I spent 20 years at the Center for Creative Leadership and for the past 16 years I have been invited to West Point to deliver the Stevens' Leadership program for the top 32 cadets and midshipmen from all five of our Federal service academies. This is prefatory to the impact that General Hoskins had on me, my family, and my career. Of all the General Officers I have known and worked with (and this includes the current CSA, and CJCS), I consider Lynn Hoskins to be one of the most capable, sincere, and understanding senior leaders I have had the privilege of serving with. I recall with much fondness my time with him and his lovely wife, Beverly. This was a model Army family. I have so many fond memories of this outstanding leader. If it is indeed true that what we leave is our family and our legacy, then Lynn Hoskins left many of us better for his presence in our lives.
