Be Thou At Peace

My memories of our get-togthers at West Point reunions have been such fond ones. I had so many new names to memorize, but the happy faces stay with me longer. It was a shame that the cancer attacked the very thing that identified Bill's character - his marvelous brain - that I couldn't wish that he should remain incapacitated in that respect. I carried out his wishes that no artificial means be supplied. It was tough at the end, but that old West Point bearing carried him through. He never complained of pain and only the last day, after four days without food or water, did I give him morphine. He couldn't swallow, and was, we think, in a coma.

There will be a memorial service for Bill at 2PM on Sunday, April 9 at the Westwood Memorial Park, 1218 Glendon in LA. Donations in his memory can be made either through the Dept. of Earth & Space Sciences at UCLA or to the American Geophysical Union, Wsshington, DC. Both institutions will set up something with Bill's name on it to recognize him specifically.

Bill was in H-2 Company as a cadet and was commissioned in the Army Corps of Engineers. He is survived by his wife and three children.
