Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Pat Hagan on January 3, 2009:

Does anyone have a recording of any of his speeches? If not I don't have a lot of specific recollections about the man other than the general high regard in which I held him..(due mostly to well crafted and thoughtful speeches no doubt) I do remember the unbelievable poster made out of 50? plus bed sheets showing him leading the corps of cadets chasing the crabs(midshipmen)...I remember the thunderous recognition of him entering the field during a football game and the confidence that if we got a really really crazy commandant. or TAC Gen Scott would not let him kill us.. I still feel to this day that he set the example and goal for us to attain and we are still following close order behind him.. He was believable.

You hit the nail on the head John. Somehow Gen Scott Inspired us to do better and Lead us to really believe that we were answering a higher calling by becoming officers. He was subtle yet infinitely effective. I had the feeling that it was best to get as many mistakes out of my system as possible at West Point so that I would not let him or myself down by hurting the troops in the Army. Malcontent or not I really wanted to live up to Gen Scott's values.

THANK YOU SIR.

Pat
