“Ride On, Scotty!”
A Tribute to LTG Willard W. Scott, Jr., USMA 1948 52nd Superintendent of the United States Military Academy
By BG (Ret) Alan B. Salisbury, USMA 1958
When the Army goes to battle on the fields of friendly strife, Winning is the only thing, it’s bigger than all life. The Spirit of West Point drives on, to see those Kaydets rule. But nothing beats the spirit of the noble Army mule!
Ride on, Scotty, ride on! Spur the Army team to victory. Hannibal and Ranger stand proudly at your side. When the going’s tough, and the game gets rough, They know it’s time to ride. So ride on, Scotty, ride on!
From the foxholes of Korea, to the mid-east’s desert sands, The Long Gray Line around the globe is there, in Michie’s stands. The "twelfth man" on the Army team surrounds those on the field. And when their spirit fills the air, the Black Knights never yield!
Ride on, Scotty, ride on! Spur the Army team to victory. Hannibal and Ranger stand proudly at your side. When the going’s tough, and the game gets rough, They know it’s time to ride. So ride on, Scotty, ride on!
