Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Megan Klein on May 11, 2012:

Joe!
Just weeks ago we were on the phone back and forth trying to get you back online after your computer blue screened. We tried one thing after another without success, laughing and sharing stories along the way. I can still hear your voice.

Finally, in a bid to get at your email, if nothing else, I asked if you had any other computers sitting around. You told me your grandkids had given you an iPad for Christmas but you hadn't had a chance to play with it. You dusted it off and we figured out how to pull up your email through the iPad. You were amazed. :)

It gave you a bit of breathing room to get your old desktop fixed. I tried to convince you to get an Apple laptop but in the end, you called back to say you got the old girl running again. I laughed and called you crazy.

For years you've been WP-ORG's canary in the coal mine, watching your email like a hawk and quick to alert if messages were coming in out of sequence, too slow, not at all - sometimes you'd write just to say things were working smoothly.

I'll miss you, buddy. I'll miss your laugh across the phone line, your name in my inbox and popping up on my cell phone. I'll miss your sweet self-deprecating humor and your patience. I'll miss.. you. Thanks for being a part of my world.

XOs, Joe. And safe travels. We'll meet again.
Megan
