Kenneth "Ken" McIntyre, 87, of Leesburg, Virginia, passed away in his sleep on Thursday, December 19, 2013. Ken was born March 29, 1926 in Randolph, Vermont to Edwin and Arene (Rumrill) McIntyre. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in 1949 and went on to serve his country in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers with honor and distinction for 30 years. He retired from the Army with the rank of Brigadier General. He was an active member of The American Legion, the Loudoun County Fine Arts Association, and the Woodlea Manor Architectural Review Board until Parkinson's disease made it impossible for him to participate. In 1954 he married the former Michaela Grenata in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Ken is survived by his wife of 59 years, Michaela, son Michael and his wife Joyce of Dublin, Ohio, son Bill and his wife Heather of Charles Town, West Virginia, daughter Maile and her husband Terry Bradfield of Fairfax City, Virginia, daughter Kenna and her husband Dan Juliani of Wellesley, Massachusetts, son Jim and his wife Virginia of Seattle, Washington, and son Jack of Wilmington, Delaware. Ken also has eleven grandchildren: Kristin McIntyre, Kevin McIntyre and his wife Rebecca, Kayla and her husband Brian Rossi, Jim Bradfield, Annie Bradfield, Katherine Juliani, Michelle Juliani, Rebecca Juliani, Alex McIntyre, Leah McIntyre, and James McIntyre. Ken also has one great grandchild: Ava McIntyre. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Arene, and his brother Phillip McIntyre. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 am on Monday, December 23, 2013 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA 20175. Ken's son-in-law, the Reverend Terry Bradfield, will be officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Leesburg. Friends may call from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the National Museum of the U. S.
