Louis P. Bayard Army Officer, Credit Analyst Louis P. Bayard, 80, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who also worked as a credit analyst for two mortgage companies, died Feb. 22 of complications of Alzheimer's disease at Sunrise of Falls Church assisted living. Col. Bayard was born in Muskegon, Mich., and graduated at the top of his class from Culver Military Academy. He won the all-Army high jump championship at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He graduated in 1949. During his 22-year military career, Col. Bayard served in Germany, Italy and Vietnam and was stationed at the Pentagon with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. His decorations include the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star Medal. After his retirement from active duty in 1971, he worked as a credit analyst for B.F. Saul Mortgage Co. and for Legg Mason. He retired in 2001. Col. Bayard enjoyed reading, writing and tennis and was an avid runner who completed his first marathon at age 52. He also coordinated Special Olympics activities for the Marine Corps and enjoyed coaching youth soccer teams in Northern Virginia. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Ethel M. Bayard of Falls Church; three children, Paul J. Bayard of Alameda, Calif., Christopher S. Bayard of Chicago and Louis P. Bayard Jr. of the District; two brothers; two sisters; and five grandchildren.
