Wayne Aaron Norby passed away on June 26, 2018, at home in Fort Belvoir, VA.

He was born on January 13, 1927, in Hitterdal, MN, the only child of Corall and Alice (Larson) Norby.

After graduating as valedictorian from North High in Minneapolis, he enlisted in the U.S. Army but soon received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy. At West Point, he was a member of the varsity hockey team.

After graduating in the Class of 1949, he accepted a commission in the U.S. Air Force, joined the Air Weather Service and served in the Korean War as a weather officer. He continued in the Air Weather Service with assignments at Ramstein AFB in Germany, and Scott AFB in Illinois. After earning his Masters' Degree in mathematics at the University of Illinois, he served on the faculty of the math department at the U.S. Air Force Academy and was instrumental in starting the Academy ice hockey program. Assignments at the Air Command and Staff College in Montgomery, Alabama; and the Pentagon and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, DC rounded out his Air Force career.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1977, he joined the Central Intelligence Agency and in his final retirement years, taught math at Northern Virginia Community College.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Elaine (Lewis) Norby.

He is survived by his children, John (Cynthia) Norby, Karen (Donald) Wolf, and James (Laura) Norby; and grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew and Anne Norby, Matthew and Jonathan Wolf, and Jake and Zach Norby.

Memorial service at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Springfield, VA. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, in Minneapolis, MN.
