John Edward Ike

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Wayne C. Smith, Jr. 17305 Company L-2 on February 1, 2015:

During my stay at West Point, John Ike and Turner Croonquist were two of my roommates one year. I had a very difficult time with my academics. I found myself with two individuals who seemed to breeze along with no effort. John and Turner were never in any of my sections. The only time I saw them was during study at night and at drill. John was commissioned in the Air Force. I lost track of John during my career. However, after I was retired and went to live and work in Columbia, South Carolina one of our classmates, Jack Sayler, decided to have a mini Reunion in Savannah, Georgia. On this occasion, I met John and his wife for the first time since graduation. John was just as quiet and reserved as he was as a roommate.

I, then, remembered, that while I struggled with my academics and no time on my hands, John seemed to always have time on his hands. May John, my old roommate, rest in peace and with all the time still on his hands.
