Be Thou At Peace

Colonel George Stukhart passed away peacefully at the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, Texas on 30 September 2013. He served his country and family throughout his lifetime.

George was a 24-year career US Army Officer, professional engineer, university professor, devoted husband and father, as well as a servant to the community. Born to George and Antoinette Deyerberg Stukhart in Hoboken New Jersey on 22 Jan 1927 George was a loving, and studious child. He was challenged early in life with the death of his father from injuries sustained in WW1.

An excellent student he excelled in his studies while attending Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Massachusetts from 1941-1944 and received an appointment to attend the United States Military Academy in 1945. Graduating in June of 1949 he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Engineers. Following his initial training he served throughout the Army, including combat tours in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, with distinction in a variety of Engineer staff and leadership positions. During this time he also completed two Masters Degrees and his PHD in Geodetic Science from Ohio State University and New York University.

Following his retirement From the US Army he continued his service to the country working as a professional engineer for Bechtel Corporation and as a professor of Construction Engineering at Texas A&M University at College Station, Texas. Active in the Lions Club, the Episcopal church, and the Army Residence Community George was known for his sweet and cheerful disposition and willingness to help all.

He was predeceased by his first wife Margaret in 1994 and is survived by his second wife Shelley (Milner) Stukhart. Additional survivors are his daughter LTC (Ret) Ann (Stukhart) Kenny and son-in-law LTC (Ret) Timothy (Joe) Kenny of Burke, Virginia; his daughter Carol (Stukhart) Weart and son-in-law LTC (Ret) Jeffrey M. Weart of Spring Lake, North Carolina. George also enjoyed the love of his three grandchildren, Grant Joseph Kenny, CPT David George Weart, and 2LT Robert Jeffrey Weart.

Memorial service will be conducted at 10 am on Monday 7 October 2013 at the Army Residence Community Memorial Chapel 7400 Crestway, San Antonio, Texas.
Graveside service will follow at 1:30 pm at the Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to the "Superintendents Annual Fund", mailed to Gift Operations, West Point Association of Graduates, 698 Mills Road, West Point, New York 10996; or to the charity of your choice.
