A graveside service for Robert Edward Leisy, 80, who died Oct. 17, 2005, at his home in Rancho Mirage, Calif., will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Roselawn Mausoleum in Martinsville. The Rev. Joseph G. Moore will officiate.

A military graveside service will be conducted by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard and the U.S. Air Force.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home in Martinsville.

Memorial donations may be made in Leisy's honor to Army "A" Club, 639 Howard Road, West Point, N.Y. 10996.

Leisy was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on March 24, 1925. He graduated from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Ind., and received appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. where he graduated in 1949. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and enlisted in the Air Force.

While serving in the Korean Conflict, he rose to the rank of Captain and received the following decorations: Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and United Nations Service Medal.

Leisy was a lifelong member and supporter of the Association of Graduates, U.S. Military Academy.

After his military service, he came to the Martinsville area and became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville. He was owner and operator of Sportlanes Bowling Center in Martinsville and in Kinston, N.C.

He was a former member of the Bassett Kiwanis Club, Chatmoss Country Club and the Board of Directors of First National Bank of Bassett.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Leisy of Coronado, Calif.; two sons, Robert E. Leisy Jr. of Richmond and William D. Leisy of Amelia Island, Fla.; a daughter, Kathryn Leisy Childers of Plano, Texas; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
