In the West Point Class of 1949, I did not know Bill Dirkes well other than recognizing him. After I resigned from the US Army and was working for General Electric in their Jet Engine Group in a Cincinnati, OH, suburb, I got in contact with Bill who was working in Dayton, OH, some 30 miles north. We decided to visit each other with our wives. We would meet in Dayton and then in Cincinnati. My wife and I really enjoyed the association with Bill and his wife. Bill was a fine man who remained in Ohio, whereas, I moved to the Dallas,TX area. |
