Lewis Maverick Jamison

West Point, 1949

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Terry Powers on November 11, 2022:

Lewis Maverick "Punch" Jamison, Col. USAF Ret., passed away in San Antonio, Texas. Born in San Antonio, Punch followed in his father's footsteps, joining the gymnastics team at West Point. Punch was captain of the team and runner up at the NCAA championships on the flying rings in 1949 and was designated an NCAA all-American athlete. After graduating from West Point, Punch immediately joined the Air Force, training as a fighter pilot, his childhood dream. He was awarded numerous medals and commendations for his contributions as a Viet Nam War pilot and other missions throughout his career. He earned an MBA from George Washington University and completed the Harvard Advanced Management Program.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1976, Punch settled in Pacific Palisades, CA where he worked at The RAND Corporation in Santa Monica as a consultant/analyst until 2014, publishing many papers on military and logistics issues. In 2014 he relocated to the Army Residence Community in San Antonio. Punch was involved in many community-service programs, including the Kiwanis Club, and philanthropy projects such as the West Point Gymnastics Fund development.

Punch is predeceased by his parents Glen C. Jamison, Brig. Gen. USAF, Ret., and San Antonio native Ada Maverick "Punkie" Jamison, his twin sister Marilyn "Judy" Albright, and his former wife Nancy Hollingsworth Bohnet of San Antonio. Punch is survived by his two daughters Nancy Jamison (McInnis) of Newport, RI, and Judy Jamison (Mindlin) of Albuquerque, N.M., sons-in-law Steven McInnis and Edward Mindlin, grandchildren Sarah Mindlin and Greg Mindlin, niece Jamie Maverick, and his dear friend Hatsie Meloy and her family.

Punch was a friend to all, the life of the party, and so generous with his time and treasure. After moving to the ARC, Punch and his daughters were able to reconnect and build a loving and close relationship that will endure forever. We are all blessed to know this man and will miss him immensely.

A memorial service is planned at the Army Residence Community, Cheever Chapel, on Friday September 30 at 10am followed by a reception. A graveside service will be private for the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ARC Foundation.
