LITTLE SILVER -- Joseph M. Pingitore, 40, of 41 River's Edge Drive, who was a beer distributor and former Better Government League president in Long Branch, died Friday of a heart attack in his home.

Born in Long Branch, Mr. Pingitore ahd resided here 14 years. He was the president and owner of Joseph Pingitroe, Inc. of Long Branch. The Better Government League last year led the movement to change Long Branch's form of municipal government and endorsed Mayor Paul Nastasio Jr. for election.

Mr. Pingitore was graduated from Bordentown Military Institute and attended Duke University, Durham, N.C. He was graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., in 1949, and then served four years in the Army as a first lieutenant.

Mr. Pingitore was a member of the National Wholesale Beer Distributors Association and vice resident of the New Jersey Wholesale Beer Distributors. He was also a member of the Navesink Country Club, Middletown, and the West Point Alumni Association.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jean Altschul Pingitore; his son, Robert Anthony Pingitore, and daughter, Margaret Ann Pingitore, both at home, and his brother, Frank Pingitore of Long Branch.

A Requiem Mass will be offered tomorrow at 10 a.m. in St. James episcopal Church, Long Branch. Burial, under the direction of the Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, will take place in Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
