LT. COL. RALPH CHRISTIAN RAABE SHALIMAR, Florida

Lt. Col. Ralph Christian Raabe, 82, Shalimar, died June 14, 2009.

Ralph was born on December 10, 1926, in Delphos, Ohio. He married Anita Steffen in 1949.

He graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1944; U. S. Military Academy at West Point in 1949; Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1955.

He was an aeronautical engineer in the US Air Force in the 1950's, after which he served in the USAFR for more than 20 years.

He was employed as a research liaison and engineer with several manufacturing companies before retiring in 1982.

He moved to Shalimar from Letts, Iowa, in 1995.

He enjoyed sailing and playing golf at the Shalimar Pointe Country Club, where he was a member. He also worked as a volunteer tax preparer for AARP.

Surviving family members include his mother, Ruth Schult of Van Wert, Ohio; his wife, Anita Raabe of Shalimar, Florida; a son, Ralph Raabe III and wife, Teresa of San Jose, California; daughter Lisa Krenz of San Jose, California; a son, Mark Raabe and wife, Nancy of Belmont, California; grandchildren, Rebecca Raabe, Kris, Holly, and Sarah Krenz, and Lauren Raabe; a son-in-law, Tom Girocco and family; and sister, Edith DeGolyer and family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gus Schult; a brother, Charles Raabe; and a daughter, Chrisann Girocco.

Memorial Service was held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009, at the McLaughlin Mortuary, Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 339 N. W. Racetrack Blvd., Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548.
