Be Thou At Peace

Col. Lombard was born in Beloit, Wis., and at the time of his passing was residing in Waynesboro, Pa.

He was a 1949 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point as second lieutenant with a commission in field artillery.

He served with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945. He was first assigned to serve in Germany with the 519th Field Artillery Battalion Constabulary. He also completed additional staff training at U.S. Army College, Carlisle Barricks, Pa., and received a master's degree in aeronautical and aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan.

His last assignment was at Fort Ritchie, as acting post commander and chief of staff for the 7th Signal Command.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.

He was a member of numerous organizations, including BPO Elks Lodge 731, Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 and Waynesboro Country Club, all of Waynesboro, and Fort Ritchie Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Chapter (AFCEA).

He is survived by his wife, Adele; three sons; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry C. and Lela Fairchild Lombard; one son, Thomas E. Lombard, and one sister, Melba Berry.
