Be Thou At Peace

A native of Pennsylvania, Col. Henry was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and had a distinguished career in the military where at age 17 he enlisted in the Aircorps and began his service during WWII.

Some of the highlights of his life were that he attended and graduated from The United States Military Academy (West Point) in 1949 where in 1948 he was an All American walk-on football player.

He served as a pilot in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War for which he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic action under fire in 1968.

In 1957 he attended the Air Force Institute of Technology and the Naval War College in 1962.

He received an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1963 and was Chief of Launch Operations, Air Force Gemini Program 1963-1966 at Cape Canaveral in Florida.

A distinguished graduate of the Air War College in 1970, Col. Henry became the Head of R.O.T.C. at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and retired in 1976 to start a second successful career as a rancher in South Alabama for 15 years before settling in Stone Mountain in 1990.

Col. Henry was preceded in death by his brothers, John Austin and Eugene Lynn Henry, and his parents, Mary Catherine and Eugene Matthew Henry, as well as his fourth child, Matthew Robert Henry.

Survivors include: Wife: Sue Henry, Stone Mountain; Children: Mary Jo (Dan) Brooks, Christine Henry, Dr. John Michael (Barbara Leasure) Henry, Cynthia (Pierce) Hodnette, Mark (Robin) Henry; 12 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren. Col. Henry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
