Judson Jerome 'Jud' Conner was born in Burlington, VT, Jul 29, 1925, won three athletic letters in high school and, was president of his junior and senior high school class before joining the Marine Corps on graduation in 1943. He entered West Point two years later and managed to walk the area for three months before he graduated in 1949. Commissioned in the Armored Cavalry, he commanded a unit of Armor at every echelon from platoon through brigade during the next thirty years.

In 1955, he graduated from the Armor School and the Airborne School, and he met and married Catherine Hellmig, a pretty nurse from Fair Lawn, NJ. Together they raised three robust sons, the eldest of which, Raymond, graduated from USMA in 1980. During his tour of duty, Jud graduated from the National War College and earned two graduate degrees, a Master of Arts Degree (Journalism) from the University of Florida and a Master of Science Degree (International Affairs) from George Washington University.

Following his retirement from the Army in 1979, he taught part-time at the National Defense University and as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Southern California for its off-campus graduate course in Systems Management.

He also took up writing as a hobby and had five books published, one of which was selected by West Point as one of the top three published by graduates for the year.

He and Catherine divided their time between West Virginia and St. Simons Island, GA, until moving to the retirement community of Ashby Ponds in northern Virginia in 2008. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; three sons: Raymond, Jeffery, and Daniel; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
